NEOS National Council MP Karin Doppelbauer and state spokesman Felix Eypeltauer are calling for structural reforms to reduce energy costs in Upper Austria. September’s labor market numbers are an alarm signal, said Eypeltauer at a press conference on Monday morning. “Investments are no longer only postponed, but also shifted.” The two politicians primarily criticize the structures that hold up prices. For example, there is no reason why there should be 21 different network operators in Upper Austria. Doppelbauer calls for them to put together to save personnel and increase efficiency. The National Council Member of the National Council said at the VAT reduction in energy that has been discussing several times recently: “That would be nice if we had the money. The budget is currently too tight.”

The demands of the NEOS are supported by a study that the Ecoaustria research institute created on its behalf. This shows that economic output in Upper Austria is more energy -intensive than, for example, in the Vienna service state state. High energy prices therefore particularly affect Upper Austria. A reduction in energy costs would have positive effects on employment, budget and inflation. The director of Ecoaustria Monika Köppl-Turyna is rather little to believe: “Subscribe should be a bridging aid that prevent companies from migration due to the high energy costs.”
