GURTEN, RIED. Two thirds of the autumn season of the Central Regional League have been played. Union Gurten is currently in fourth place in the table with 20 points. Accordingly, Gurten’s sporting director Sebastian Dietrich is satisfied with how the season has gone so far. “The team has been absolutely convincing so far. We’re happy to continue in this vein,” says Dietrich.
The runner-up of the last two years is once again in the top field this year, even though coach Peter Madritsch’s team lost two long-standing top performers in Sebastian Zirnitzer and Rene Wirth in the summer. In addition, the injury devil has not avoided Gurten so far.
Strong new additions
“We had a lot of bad luck with injuries. Two or three top performers were always out for a few weeks,” says Dietrich. According to Gurten’s sports director, the fact that things are going so well despite the injuries is because they have a good squad range.
“I think we have strengthened ourselves really well in the summer. All the new players have shown so far that they have a lot of quality. The competition is higher than in previous years. There is a real fight for the regular places,” says Dietrich.
The Gurtners still have to play five games before the winter break. Today, promoted team Velden is playing in the Park21 Arena (game starts at 7 p.m.). Anything other than a win for the home team would be a surprise. “We are definitely the favorites,” says Dietrich. After the encounter against the promoted team, coach Peter Madritsch’s team still has encounters against four top teams on the program. First, the Gurtners have to play away at ASKÖ Oedt next week, then they play against the strong newcomer Kalsdorf. The opponent in the last home game in autumn is SPG Wallern/St. Marienkirchen. Finally, the away game against the strong home team SC Weiz is on the schedule. “It’s a really difficult remaining program that lies ahead of us. We’ll have to put in a strong performance every time if we want to score points,” says Dietrich.
