Gaza ceasefire holds: thousands of Palestinians return
Thousands are making their way back to Gaza City.

Hamas must release its hostages within 72 hours.

On Saturday, they moved on foot, in cars and carts, mainly to the north of the largely destroyed coastal area. Israeli troops had previously withdrawn behind agreed lines as part of the first phase of a US-brokered agreement.

“It’s an indescribable feeling, thank God,” said Nabila Basal, who was traveling with her daughter. “We are very, very happy that the war has stopped and the suffering has ended.”

Hundreds of trucks with relief supplies expected

With the withdrawal of Israeli troops from major urban areas, Hamas has begun a 72-hour period to release its hostages. “We are very excited and waiting for our son and all 48 hostages,” said Hagai Angrest, whose son is among 20 Israeli hostages believed to be still alive. “We’re waiting for the call.”
