“It’s just cool what’s possible in Linz when it comes to ice hockey. Regardless of whether it’s for men or women,” says Ice-Cats chairman Heli Wiesinger, happy about his ice hockey women’s successful record game on Saturday in the Linz-AG ice arena. The fact that the hosts lost to the Women Capitals 2:3 in extra time was a side note.

715 spectators saw a well-positioned team from Linz right from the start, who, contrary to the run of play, fell behind 0-1 in the 18th minute thanks to Amelie Suppan. The shooting ratio in the first period was 11:5 in favor of the Eiskatzen, who turned the game in their favor in the middle period. Johanna Zehetner equalized in the 22nd minute when she was outnumbered, and Emily Wiesinger made the spectators cheer with her opening goal in the 36th minute. The game seemed to have taken the right path for the Upper Austrians. But Verena Haselsteiner forced extra time for the Viennese with a 2-2 score in the 51st minute. An extension that was decided in favor of the guests after just seven seconds with Leonie Artner’s goal (61st) in the first move.
