Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok told the TASR news agency. At least two people were in critical condition, said the rescue workers who were on a large-scale operation. Health Minister Kamil Sasko announced that he would personally go to the scene of the accident.

The collision between the two passenger trains occurred near the village of Jablonov nad Turnou in southeastern Slovakia, about 55 kilometers west of the city of Kosice. According to preliminary information from the Interior Ministry, a “human error” was the cause. One train driver probably gave way to the other.
