The driver of the van suffered injuries

The driver of the van was traveling on the A8 towards Voralpenkreuz around midnight before he left the road with his vehicle, drove into a rest area near Pichl near Wels (Wels-Land district) and crashed into the rear of a truck parked there. He was probably traveling at high speed. “At least that’s what the deformations on the transporter suggest,” says Michael Kirchberger, commander of the Meggenhofen fire department, which was called to the operation together with the Aistersheim fire department.

The handlebar of the van was trapped in the foot area and the fire department had to free him. “The transporter was full of electrical appliances, which we had to unload first. The metal wall that separates the driver’s cab from the loading space was half torn from its anchorage. We bent it back, then enlarged the footwell and carefully brought the man outside via the trunk,” says Kirchberger.
