The comrades from the Grein volunteer fire department were on duty for no less than five hours on Wednesday morning after a serious traffic accident occurred on the B3. The task was to rescue a truck that had left the road and crashed into a rock wall. The driver, a 23-year-old from the Melk district, lost control of the heavy vehicle loaded with 44 tons of round wood around five a.m. near Dornach.

He later told the police that a white semi-trailer truck came towards him and forced him to take an abrupt evasive maneuver. As a result, the truck ended up on the shoulder and tipped into the ditch. He then had to continue his journey half in the ditch and half on the road before crashing into a rock wall after about 150 meters.
