Meta eliminated a group of Facebook used to share information about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Chicago, after the Department of Justice request its closure. The decision seeks to stop the disclosure of locations and coordinated attacks against officialsaccording to the authorities and the company.

The group, called “ICE Sighting-Chicagoland”had more than 80,000 members before being eliminated. Attorney General Pam Bondi explained on social media that the page was used to “doxing” (publishing personal and private information about a person such as name, address, telephone number) and attacking immigration agents in Chicago. A Meta spokesperson, Francis Brennan, confirmed that the group was removed for “violating our policies against coordinated harm,” without providing further details.

Meta, also owner of Instagram and WhatsApp, joins others technology companies that have acted under government pressure.
