Almost a ton: That’s how much Europe’s heaviest pumpkin weighs. And he comes from Austria for the first time. Wolfgang Nittnaus from Gols, a breeder from Burgenland, won the European pumpkin weighing championship title this year. The “Atlantic Giant” specimen weighed an impressive 998.5 kilograms at the European Championships in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

A close race

13 giant pumpkins from several countries – including Germany, Belgium, Portugal and Poland – competed against each other. It was a close race for the farmer: the second-placed pumpkin from Brandenburg was larger, but not heavier. He weighed “only” 836.5 kilos.
