YouTube blocked Russian media outlets RT and Sputnik over the war in Ukraine

Faced with the blockade, the RT channel called on its audience to watch them through the Odysee online video platform.

“Follow RT on the Odysee platform that gives freedom of expression,” the channel tweeted.

Yesterday, Facebook, belonging to the Meta group, decided to block in the countries of the European Union (EU) the contents of the RT channel and Sputnik, considered to be part of the official Russian media.

“We have received requests from several governments and the European Union to take additional measures regarding Russian state-controlled media.”Nick Clegg, vice president of Meta, wrote on Twitter, justifying the suspension by “the exceptional nature of the situation,” the AFP news agency reported.

Russian government-controlled media accounts, including RT and Sputnik, were blocked on the TikTok social network throughout the European Union.

The French version of Sputnik reported on its Twitter that the functions of its YouTube channels have been suspended in France, although its Telegram channel is still working.

All these announcements are in tune with the prohibition of these two media decreed on Sunday by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyenwhich considered that both outlets are guilty of selling “lies to justify” the war launched by President Vladimir Putin against Ukraine.
