“The Russian armed forces will continue the special military operation until the set goals are met,” Shoigu told a news conference broadcast on state television.
Russia seeks the “demilitarization” and “denazification” of Ukraine, as well as protecting Russia from the “military threat created by Western countries,” the minister said.
As the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine grows, the minister denied that Russian forces target civilian or residential infrastructure, saying that Ukrainian forces use it as a shield to protect themselves from Moscow’s attacks.
“Multiple rocket launchers and large-caliber mortars are installed in the yards of buildings near schools and kindergartens,” Shoigu said.
Vladimir Putin had made the same accusations, fueling fears of a multiplication of attacks in urban areas.
