The green e-scooters have been rolling through Linz for three years

When it started three years ago, the Berlin start-up “Tier Mobility” distributed 200 of its green e-scooters in the state capital, and 600 scooters with replaceable batteries are currently available for users. Marlene Johler, Regional Manager Austria draws a positive balance. Her experience: “The offer is well received.” So far, more than 430,000 trips have been counted in Linz, as well as almost 45,000 users: “Whether along the Danube Cycle Path or from the main square to the Freinberg, whether from the train station to the center or from the Lentos to the JKU – with the TIER scooter you can get through Linz easily and CO2-neutrally.”

The scooters can be put into operation via an app, and you have to pay a basic fee of one euro, which is currently 27 cents per minute. And that’s almost twice as much as at the start of 2019. At that time it was still 15 cents per minute. The e-scooters used by Tier have replaceable batteries and have a service life of around five years. The use of removable battery models eliminates the need to drive scooters back and forth to warehouses for charging every day. The employees replace the empty batteries with charged ones directly on site and can thus significantly reduce their travel distances.

Own Code of Conduct

The excitement surrounding the e-scooters has now subsided (there have been several rental companies since 2019), which have often made a name for themselves by lying around wildly and inconsiderate user behavior. Sometimes because Linz is known to have drawn up its own code of conduct with speed limits and the like. This has also been adapted over time. With the introduction of the code, complaints to both the city and the police (as reported several times) decreased significantly. At peak times there were around 1000 e-scooters in the state capital.
