Since yesterday, more than 400 young people between the ages of 14 and 24 have been pitching in throughout Upper Austria. In Austria’s largest youth social campaign “72 hours without compromise”, participants are doing charitable work until October 25th.
No matter whether on the farm, in social institutions such as old people’s homes, in kindergartens or youth centers: you repair, design or simply give time. Under the motto “Get it done”, 31 projects will be implemented in Upper Austria this year. The campaign takes place every two years, and this year the project is in its twelfth edition.
Gain experience together
The starting signal for the 72 hours without compromise was given yesterday at noon in the Linz Promenade Galleries with a joint event. The aim of the campaign is for young people to get to know new worlds and to get involved with other people.
“The campaign invites people to meet each other, learn from each other and gain experiences together that will have a lasting impact,” says Marianne Böck, project coordinator for the Catholic Youth in Upper Austria. “It’s a great opportunity to experience the social sector up close and feel what you can achieve through your own actions,” adds Klaus Neumüller from youngCaritas.
Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen also praised the young people via video: “You are giving your time – and therefore the most precious thing you can give.”
Work on the farm
Through their company preparation, Nadine, Mira, Kiara and Marlene learned about the “72 hours without compromise”. The four women from Grünbach (Freistadt district) will spend their three days on an organic farm. “There, for example, we help plant trees,” they say. They can also take part in the farm’s own cheese production. “We like that it’s a charitable work and that we can spend time with friends.
