Ökofen, a producer of pellet heating systems based in Niederkappel, is expanding its range and entering the electricity storage market. From next January, battery storage, hybrid inverters and electric charging stations as well as central energy management will also be in the portfolio.
By entering the market, Ökofen says it wants to address two problem areas: the declining feed-in tariff for PV electricity and the lack of coordination between electricity and heating systems in houses. Ökofen describes the system as “heat-intelligent”: The electricity storage system is not only based on the PV system and electricity consumption, but also proactively takes the heat requirements in the household into account.
“Many electricity storage systems only regulate according to electricity generation, although heat accounts for 60 to 70 percent of energy consumption in the household. Our approach takes both into account in a forward-looking manner and thus improves self-consumption and system efficiency,” says managing director Stefan Ortner.
