Hajart becomes the new Linz ÖVP boss

This change has been apparent since last week (as reported several times by OÖN), and yesterday it was also unanimously approved by the Linz VP party committees. Martin Hajart, currently still office manager of Deputy Governor Christine Haberlander, returns to Linz city politics and succeeds Bernhard Baier as Deputy Mayor and Executive City Party Chairman. As is well known, Baier will be one of the new managing directors of OÖ Wohnbau, which was decided at yesterday’s supervisory board meeting.

While yesterday Baier appeared alone in front of the press to announce his resignation, today Baier and Hajart were on the road as a duo. At the beginning both wished each other all the best for their future tasks. “I am grateful for the great trust that is placed in me. I will do everything I can to support Linz and city politics,” says 38-year-old Hajart. His parliamentary group election in the municipal council is on the agenda for March 17, and Baier will start his new job on March 18.

“Wants to do Linz politics”

Hajart’s goal for his job in Linz city politics: “That’s clear: Linz politics – and nothing else. Especially in a phase in which there is so much talk about party politics, I will work for this city.” The Linz ÖVP team remains unchanged.

According to Hajart, a joint timetable for the political period should be worked out at a Linz retreat on the weekend after he was sworn in. The challenges in the transport sector are great: “We are facing a mobility turnaround.”

As a former VP councilor and club chairman, Hajart is no stranger to local politics. He previously worked in the office of Deputy Mayor Erich Watzl (now State Office Director) and his successor Bernhard Baier. Hajart is married and has two children. He studied finance at the JKU.
