According to Ludwig, Häupl hopes that the number of infections will stabilize in March – only then should the restrictions be lifted. That will probably be the case in April.
Ludwig is still convinced that the government’s opening steps would come too early. “I think we’re dropping a lot very quickly that would protect us.” The number of patients in the normal wards is still high, and many employees in the health sector are absent due to corona infections. He is therefore “very skeptical” about the extensive simultaneous easing steps.
Vienna will therefore remain with 2G in gastronomy for some time, emphasized Ludwig. The stricter mask requirement also remains in place – he does not see why the FFP2 mask should protect in public transport and supermarkets, but not elsewhere. The population has now gotten used to wearing masks. The 2G Plus obligation in hospitals will also remain in place.
FPÖ Vienna: “Stubborn mayor”
“With his stubbornness, SPÖ Mayor Ludwig is punishing the Viennese population and especially the restaurateurs. Apparently, Ludwig believes that his Viennese bullying is going down in the media in the current Ukraine crisis,” said Vienna FPÖ leader, City Councilor Dominik Nepp, on today’s announcement to continue the stricter corona measures until at least April. “The hospitals are far from being overwhelmed, the course of the disease is mostly mild. There is therefore no reason to maintain the measures for just one more day. I call on the mayor to finally come to his senses and to immediately acknowledge the worsening of the Viennese population end,” affirmed the Viennese FPÖ chairman.
