Colorful autumn leaves decorate the streets, the residents go shopping, the children are looking forward to the upcoming autumn holidays. Apparently there is no longer anything to indicate that a year ago there was a state of emergency for five days in the Mühlviertel community of Altenfelden and in the neighboring towns.
Because a hunter, Roland D., shot two hunting colleagues and then fled. The result was a search operation that had never before been carried out on this scale nationwide. Even today, a year later, there are still many unanswered questions about the double murder of a hunter.
It started with a call to the police on October 28, 2024: A woman reported around 8:15 a.m. that shots had been fired in the small Altenfelden town of Fraunschlag. As it later turned out, Roland D. had checked on 64-year-old Franz Hofer in front of a foot care institute. The mayor of Kirchberg ob der Donau, who was also an active hunter, tried to escape across a meadow, but was shot by Roland D.
