According to the Treasury Secretary, Washington’s support “generated “hopes for a private sector solution to end decades of economic mismanagement and poverty” in Argentina. Bessent called on Senator Warren to “refocus on American workers and vote to reopen the government now.”
In a defiant tone, she closed her message with a warning: “Otherwise, both she and all her colleagues […] will look appropriately labeled as the Grinches who stole Thanksgiving from millions of Americans who are trying to support their families, travel and be with their loved ones this holiday season.”

Elizabeth Warren’s harsh response to Scott Bessent
The senator responded directly to Bessent’s tweet and accused them of buying the elections from Javier Milei. “You and Donald Trump bought the election for your political ally in Argentina and enriched hedge fund investors. When will you rescue American workers from your disastrous policies?”
Warren accused the Republican administration of using public money to benefit political allies and Wall Street investorsinstead of addressing internal needs during the partial government shutdown, which since October 1 has left thousands of federal employees without pay.

According to the senator, the slogan “America First” was transformed into “Trump and his billionaire friends first,” and she denounced that the Argentine bailout was used as a political tool to influence legislative elections on October 26.
While Trump seeks to consolidate his global influence through like-minded figures like Milei, Democrats demand transparency and question the use of public funds in ideological alliances. With the federal government partially closed and the debate over financial support for Argentina taking center stage, Milei was unexpectedly caught in the eye of Washington’s political storm.
