Biden called for stronger gun control

US President Joe Biden has called for tighter firearms controls. He made this statement to Congress during his annual State of the Union address on Tuesday, March 1.

“I will continue to do everything in my power to curb arms trafficking and [распространение] homemade weapon, [наборы для сборки которого] can be bought online,” he said.

The American leader urged lawmakers to take action “to reduce gun violence.”

He emphasized that initiatives related to the verification of potential buyers and the ban on the acquisition of assault weapons “do not violate the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, but save lives.”

In addition, Biden spoke about criticism of police officers after the death of George Floyd during detention in May 2020 (after that, mass protests began in the country – Ed.).

He noted that the refusal to finance law enforcement agencies is not an option.

“The answer is to equip the police with the resources and training they need to protect our communities,” Biden added.

Earlier, on February 16, the families of those killed at Sandy Hook School in Newtown in 2012 filed a lawsuit against the company responsible for the production of weapons used by the criminals. To settle the lawsuit, the organization agreed to pay compensation to the families of the victims in the amount of $78 million.
