US President Joe Biden said on March 1 about the need to hold the leadership of social networks accountable for conducting “an experiment on children” for selfish purposes.

The President of the United States noted that the time has come to strengthen the protection of personal data, to ban targeted advertising to children, and to ensure that technology companies stop collecting children’s personal data.
Last October, the US Senate held its first hearing on children’s online safety. Haugen said at the time that the company knew the impact social media, especially Instagram, had on children. However, social media executives took no action.
In September last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the state and society should join forces to create a safe online space for children. He expressed hope that global digital platforms could be involved in ensuring the safety of children on the Web.
