According to the Defense Ministry in Moscow, 498 Russian soldiers have been killed in the war in Ukraine. In addition, 1,597 soldiers were injured, the ministry announced on Wednesday. This information should, of course, be viewed with caution. However, these are the first official figures from Russia since the war began on Thursday last week. Ukraine had previously spoken of around 6,000 losses on the Russian side.
So far, the Ukrainian side has killed 2,870 people and injured about 3,700, said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov. This information has not been independently verified. Ukraine has not provided any current information on losses in its own ranks.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said earlier Wednesday that Russia had lost more than 5,840 troops. More than 200 tanks, 860 other military vehicles, 30 airplanes and 31 helicopters have been destroyed since the beginning of the war. The Ukrainian ministry accused Russia of serious war crimes.
