The conflict between the two countries has been going on for a week, during which time Russian forces have killed more than 2,870 Ukrainian soldiers and “nationalists” and wounded some 3,700, Moscow’s Defense Ministry said in a report.
While the balance indicated that other 572 military personnel from Kiev were taken prisoner and 1,533 Ukrainian military infrastructures were destroyed.
Also, 47 Ukrainian planes were shot down (13 in flight) and 484 tanks hit, the report added.
In the last few hours, the US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, accused the Kremlin of sending Ukraine weapons prohibited by the Geneva Convention such as cluster bombs that were used in Kiev.
“It seems that Russia is preparing to increase the brutality of its campaign against Ukraine,” the emissary denounced.
“We have seen videos of Russian forces moving exceptionally lethal weapons into Ukraine, which have no place on the battlefield. That includes cluster and vacuum bombs and munitions, which are prohibited by the Geneva Convention,” he said.
While the US president, Joe Biden, pointed out that “it is clear” that Russia attacks Ukrainian civilians intentionally.
“It is clear (that Russia attacks civilians),” said the head of state, who stressed that, however, “it is too early” to accuse Russia of war crimes.
