There were also 36 other deaths. The seven-day incidence was now 2,201.2 cases per 100,000 population. On Thursday there were 282,497 confirmed active cases in Austria. There was a slight decrease in the hospitals.
2,599 Covid 19 patients had to be cared for on Thursday, 23 fewer than on Wednesday. Within the past week, however, 186 patients had been admitted. 189 seriously ill people were in intensive care units on Thursday, one less than the day before.
36 deaths have been registered since Wednesday, and 224 people died in connection with a Covid 19 infection in the past week alone. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has already claimed 14,924 lives in Austria since it broke out two years ago. 167.1 people per 100,000 inhabitants died from or with Covid-19.
Due to the 31,566 other infected people on Thursday, the seven-day average rose again to 28,090. The last time there were more cases on a Thursday was three weeks ago – on February 10th. At that time, 35,250 new infections were reported. On Thursday a week ago, 28,591 new cases were registered.
Only yesterday, Wednesday, was 39,493 new infections reported, the second highest 24-hour value in the Ministry of the Interior since the beginning of the pandemic. There were only more with 43,053 – but with thousands of late registrations – on January 27th, so seen it was the previous record on the day before.
The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vorarlberg with 2,502.5, followed by Lower Austria, Tyrol and Upper Austria (2,375.6, 2,370.9 and 2,353.8 respectively). They are followed by Styria (2,246.7), Salzburg (2,184.7), Burgenland (1,927), Carinthia (1,920) and Vienna (1,899).
In the past 24 hours, 1,003,811 rapid PCR and antigen tests have been registered across Austria. Of these, 497,300 were meaningful PCR tests, 6.3 percent were positive. This 24-hour value is above the average for the past week, where an average of 5.5 percent of the PCR tests were positive.
The corona vaccination protects against a severe course, but despite the mandatory vaccination, fewer and fewer people are taking advantage of it. Only 5,545 vaccinations were administered across Austria on Wednesday. Only 638 first stabs were carried out at all. In total, 37,265 vaccinations were administered across Austria in the past week, that’s how many there were at the end of January, sometimes on individual days. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,800,252 people have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 6,242,386 people and thus 69.9 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination.
The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 76 percent. In Lower Austria, 72 percent of the population has a valid vaccination protection, in Styria 70.7 percent. After Vienna (68.9), Tyrol (68.1), Carinthia (66.8), Salzburg (66.1) and Vorarlberg (65.9), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 65.5 percent.
