Staff at City Hall controls aid to Ukraine

The municipality wants to help effectively and has set up its own task force in the town hall made up of officials who are familiar with refugee issues and disaster relief. “It is very important not to look away here, but to offer support where possible. Amstetten is a safe place for families from Ukraine who are fleeing suffering and destruction,” explained Mayor Christian Haberhauer (VP). In its activities, the task force should present a ready-made concept for taking in refugees. This would also include residential addresses where the displaced could find accommodation. Residents who speak Ukrainian and who want to use their language skills to look after the refugees are also to be found.

For private individuals who would like to know how they can help the war victims from Ukraine, a separate information website will also be uploaded to the city’s online portal and an e-mail address – ukrainehilfe @amstetten.at – will be set up for inquiries. The state of Lower Austria has also opened a website at www.noehilft.at. As a further sign of solidarity with the people of Ukraine, a peace flag was hoisted on the main square in the presence of all town hall factions.
