The resident and her neighbor could only get to safety on the balconies. The fire brigade fetched the 71-year-old with the aerial rescue vehicle, her neighbor could be saved through the smoke-filled staircase.
At around 10:20 p.m., the 71-year-old resident noticed the smell of fire from her bedroom and alerted the fire department. Since the apartment was already heavily smoked at that time, she could only wait on the balcony for her rescue. Her neighbor was also waiting on her balcony because the smoke had spread to the stairwell. While the two women were being rescued, the firefighters fought the flames in the attic apartment from the inside.
The 71-year-old was taken to the Bad Ischl hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The apartment in question was severely damaged by the flames and smoke. The Bad Goisern and St. Agatha fire brigades, the rescue services and a police patrol were on duty.
