Frosty temperatures, but a stable high pressure area with lots of sun and no precipitation will set in in Upper Austria from Tuesday. According to Michael Butschek from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), the only exception is today’s Monday.
On the north side of the Alps, dense clouds are still building up in the morning hours, during the day it loosens up, and the sun can fight through the cloud cover every now and then. “But it remains rather unstable, in the southern mountains it can flake out of the dense clouds,” says Butschek. In addition, it remains cold in winter – especially in the morning hours: “But the frosty temperatures in the morning will remain with us throughout the week,” says the ZAMG meteorologist. The daily highs reach up to four degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday it will remain sunny all day long with highs of up to seven degrees and only a moderate north-easterly wind blowing, which can reach wind speeds of up to 20 km/h.
Sun from Thursday
From the current point of view, the coldest day is Wednesday, when the morning temperatures drop to minus eight degrees due to the starry night. It remains partly cloudy, the daily highs climb to nine degrees at noon.
“From the second half of the week it will only be sunny during the day, but the east wind will also get stronger again at up to 60 km/h. This means that maximum daily temperatures of ten to twelve degrees can feel very fresh,” says Butschek. “It’s definitely still too early for the transitional jacket, the hood is still needed.”
According to Butschek, the stable high-pressure weather situation can continue for longer in March. With regard to the weekend, spring-like temperatures of up to 14 degrees are to be expected. “We are now having a very long dry period. From the current perspective, we have to wait even longer for precipitation and fresh snow in the mountains,” says Butschek. (cape)
