“It’s not possible, there isn’t.” Lisa Csenar said on the stage of the OÖN Women’s Day that this motto, which she lived by in her parents’ house from an early age, has allowed her and her two sisters to grow into self-confident women.
Perhaps one reason why the 39-year-old technician takes on hurdles that others find too high. She is a passionate racing cyclist, plays ice hockey and has been interested in energy and wind power since she was a student. At a time when sustainability was not yet the big issue.
In 2020, Verbund offered to take over the department for the development of wind and photovoltaic projects. She is now working exactly where she can change something, says Csenar. “We need to massively expand renewable energy production as quickly as possible.” Letting people recognize this and taking them along on this path is a big challenge, says the business graduate.
CEO Michael Strugl talked about the challenge of making a male-dominated energy company like Verbund more female. The company has almost 4,000 employees, a year ago the proportion of women was 18 and only 9.3 percent of managers. After the implementation of a targeted “gender balance” project, just over 19 percent of all employees and 13.5 percent of managers at Verbund are now women. The self-imposed goal by 2025: one fifth women at management and employee level. “The potential that women represent in business is an incredible resource. Given the challenges that lie ahead in the energy sector, it would be downright foolish not to leverage that,” Strugl said on the Women’s Day stage.
“I sometimes see the issue that women don’t trust themselves enough with my employees. You just have to nudge them a bit,” said Csenar. As an endurance runner, the 39-year-old is also the advertising face for “the power of the turnaround.”
