Russia complains that negotiations with Ukraine did not live up to expectations

The third round of talks, with the aim of finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine, did not “live up to Moscow’s expectations,” Russian representative Vladimir Medinsky said.

“Hopefully next time we can make a more significant breakthrough.”he added at a press conference broadcast by the Russian public television channel Rossia 24.

Ukraine, for its part, noted that “there were small positive developments in improving the logistics of humanitarian corridors,” according to the head of the Office of the Presidency of Ukraine, Mikhailo Podoliak.

Likewise, Podoliak has indicated that aspects related to the “ceasefire” and “security guarantees” have also been discussed at the meeting with the Russian delegation.

From the second round came the supposed common commitment to open humanitarian corridors to allow the evacuation of civilians and the arrival of aid in areas at risk, but in recent days several initiatives of this type have failed and the two parties have accused each other of breach the agreement.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusogluannounced that on Thursday he will meet with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts, Sergei Lavrov and Dmytro Kuleba respectively, in Antalya (south), in what would be the first meeting between the two officials since the war began.

Turkey organized a three-day diplomatic forum to which he invited the head of Russian diplomacy, who confirmed his presence last weekend, according to the Turkish government, which also wanted to convince its Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.

The appointment was confirmed by Moscow, and the spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, limited himself to indicating to AFP that “the possibility of such a meeting is being considered.”

Following the initiative of our president and our intensive diplomatic efforts, the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine have decided to meet with my participation” within the framework of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, explained Cavusoglu in a tweet.

This will be Lavrov’s first trip abroad since Russia launched its offensive in Ukraine on February 24, which led to the imposition of heavy Western sanctions against its economy.

Turkey, a member of the NATO and an ally of Ukraine, it also maintains a close relationship with Russia. Since the beginning of the conflict, she has tried to be in contact with both countries.

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoganspoke on the phone on Sunday with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putinto whom he called for an “urgent general ceasefire” in Ukraine and the “urgent” opening of humanitarian corridors.
