424 kilometers away from Linz, or the equivalent of around six hours by bus, the Steel Wings will be tackling the playoffs in the Alps Hockey League for the first time in the club’s young history on Tuesday evening. The game will be played in the pre-playoffs, i.e. in a shortened round of 16 in best-of-three mode, against SG Cortina.
“The mood in the dressing room is great, everyone is in a good mood and is looking forward to the pre-playoffs. It’s a great success for us that the Steel Wings are playing in the postseason for the first time,” says captain Marcel Mayrhofer, looking forward to it the first game in the Olympic Ice Stadium in Cortina.
From 8 p.m., fans who stayed at home can gather for a public viewing at Chargers Racing in the former Uno Shopping in Leonding. For every drink consumed, an amount goes to the Steel Wings youth fund.
On Thursday, a playoff series will come to Linz for the first time since March 6, 2020. The Steel Wings welcome the SG Cortina from 7 p.m. in the Linz-AG-Eisarena.
Should there be a decisive Game 3 in the series, the Stahlhart Linz fan club will organize an away trip for fans on Saturday.
