For more than 20 years there has been discussion in Oepping about a roundabout for the Grill junction. In the meantime no longer listed as an accident black spot, this status is undisputed again due to several accidents. Realization is now within reach again. In addition, a gas station could also be built. But these plans are not only met with approval.
The two busy streets “B38 Böhmerwald Straße” and “B127 Rohrbacher Straße” cross at the Gasthaus Grill in Oepping. These could soon be connected by a four-armed roundabout with a diameter of 50 meters. In addition to defusing the accident blackspot, a roundabout would also bring convenience in commuter traffic and excursion traffic – for example on heavy skiing days in the Hochficht ski area.
Cleared many hurdles
According to information from the office of Infrastructure Councilor Günther Steinkellner, the water law permit has already been granted. The road permit will follow by autumn. Ideally, construction could start in spring 2023, with completion realistic for late autumn 2023. “By building a roundabout, we want to make the heavily used intersection with the correspondingly high number of accidents safer,” says State Councilor for Infrastructure Günther Steinkellner.
Still need for discussion
The project isn’t completely done yet. “The basic negotiations have not yet been completed, and the financing has not yet been fixed either,” said Mayor Thomas Bogner (VP) about the current status. In principle, however, he was confident that the project could be implemented in terms of road safety.
A gas station is also being considered, which to a certain extent could also close the local supply gap in Oepping. But all of this is still up in the air. There is even an initiative against the gas station. Hilda Wögerbauer from Untergrünau collects signatures against the construction. “We’re talking about environmental sins and that not so much should be built – and here everything should be irrelevant again. That would be a pointless cementing, when there are five gas stations within a few kilometers.”
