The country’s first relief supplies are on their way

Last week, Volkshilfe Oberösterreich began collecting donations in kind for Ukraine. The province of Upper Austria gave the order for this. And the Upper Austrians handed in enormous amounts of goods to the 22 Volkshilfe shops: hygiene items for babies and women, sleeping bags, blankets and medicines. Today, 38 pallets of relief supplies are on board a truck bound for Ukraine. And more will follow shortly.

Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP) was “impressed and touched” by the great willingness to help: “I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this commitment and the professional cooperation in this fundraising campaign, which brings urgently needed relief supplies to Ukraine.” Upper Austria will also provide accommodation and security to “those who have made incredible hardships and an exhausting escape”.

Private, communities, companies

“Many people don’t want to stand idly by and watch this terrible tragedy, but want to help the suffering Ukrainian population,” said Michael Schodermayr, chairman of Volkshilfe Oberösterreich. Not only private individuals, but also companies and communities participated in the collection campaign. “The willingness to donate is simply overwhelming.”

The company ACS Logistics based in Hörsching is responsible for ensuring that the goods also arrive in the Ukraine. The company has rented a warehouse in Pasching for this purpose.

“And on site, the Ukrainian sister organization ‘Narodna Dopomoha’ is at our side as our well-connected partner,” said Jasmine Chansri, Managing Director of Volkshilfe. It is planned that the trucks will go directly to this organization in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi. “If that is not possible, the donations in kind will be handed over at the Romanian-Ukrainian border. In any case, the donations will arrive where they are most urgently needed,” says Jasmine Chansri.

The amount of donations collected is so large that more vans will set off in the coming weeks.
