When he went to the mixing desk and kept his audience happy with party music and pop songs, he became a true entertainer. “He had a very special feeling for emotions that he can transfer to others through music,” says his sister Veronika Schütz-Dirnböck.
As the last of four children, Joachim grew up in his parents’ house in Wilhering and was lovingly cared for by his siblings. “He was our little one. And no matter where he was and what he did, Joachim always had a smile on his face,” says his sister. After completing high school in Wilhering, he spent five years studying electrical engineering in Linz – but Joachim Schütz was less enthusiastic about the technical profession.
He devoted himself much more to music from the age of 16 – even though he never learned to play a musical instrument as a child. “He was out with friends at the time and was asked if he wouldn’t like to play some music. He went to the mixer and that was the beginning of his great passion,” his sister remembers. He performed at festivals, school balls and in clubs until Joachim Schütz finally turned his hobby into a career.
But the life of the popular Linz DJ was more than just an atmospheric dance party. He gathered his strength and energy on excursions into nature. After his mother Heide emigrated to Canada, he and his son Patrick visited her there. He was particularly fond of fishing – “For him it was a haven of calm and a balance to his very turbulent life as a DJ,” says his sister.
On Monday, February 28, the DJ left the mixer of life at the age of just 51. The farewell will take place tomorrow, Friday, at 1.30 p.m. in the Urnenhain Linz-Urfahr. A memorial will be erected at the family grave at the St. Johann cemetery near Ternitz in Lower Austria.
