According to a media report, every twelfth of the 7,677 residents is currently positive. The country’s crisis team, which had already pointed out on Wednesday that carnival celebrations may have had an impact on the high number of cases this week, confirmed this when asked by APA. In the town, which has a vaccination rate of 73.1 percent, the seven-day incidence is currently 8,414.75.
“In Ebensee we were already at an incidence of around 1,700, within ten days it rose to over 8,000,” said Tilmann Königswieser, head of the Salzkammergut Clinic and a member of the country’s crisis management team. He sees the cause in the great party mood – despite the official cancellation of the carnival procession in Ebensee. Ebensee is traditionally a stronghold of carnival, the “Fetzenumzüge” are even world heritage sites.
The numbers are currently record high throughout Upper Austria – as well as nationwide. On Wednesday, which always shows high numbers due to the school tests, there were 8,712 new infections. But the value didn’t really go down that much on Thursday either: 8,399 new cases were reported. In the hospitals, however, the situation is moderate: on Thursday there were 372 (minus 34) Covid patients in the normal wards and 25 (plus two) in the intensive care units. The seven-day incidence in the state is currently 2577.4.
