The fire broke out around 8:15 p.m. in a production hall. Three employees, aged 33, 34 and 39, were welding on a machine when they noticed flames and smoke overhead. The so-called cooling spiral machine had started to burn. The German, the Slovak and the Hungarian immediately sounded the alarm, so that all shift workers could leave the production hall independently. It was a lengthy operation for the fire brigade. A plastic belt that runs around the machine in several lanes has repeatedly started to close.
Three employees suffered smoke inhalation, police said. One of them – a 41-year-old Romanian from the Braunau district – had to be taken to the hospital.
