The fire broke out around 10:20 p.m. in the living room. There, a 40-year-old from Salzburg fell asleep on the sofa. The man probably has a neighbor to thank for the fact that he is still alive. The 31-year-old noticed the heavy smoke in the stairwell and alerted the fire brigade. The emergency services had to break open the apartment door and found the 40-year-old unconscious on the sofa. It is currently believed that the fire was caused by a cigarette that was still burning. The cause has not yet been fully clarified, according to the police.
The man who was rescued by the fire department had stayed with a 35-year-old. He was woken up in the bedroom and was able to leave his apartment on his own. The man from the Innviertel region was taken to the hospital with mild smoke poisoning. According to the police, his guest from Salzburg suffered serious injuries and is now in the state hospital, whose dog died in the fire.
A firefighter also sustained minor injuries during the operation. The 36-year-old went to medical treatment on his own. A total of five fire brigades were on site. They were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the entire building. However, the kitchen and bathroom in the affected apartment were severely damaged.
