The minister has also denounced that “the West is pressuring China to restrict Russia’s access to yuan reserves, following the lead of the United States and Europe.”

However, the minister has assured that “Russia does not renounce its obligations on the public debt” and “will pay hostile states in rubles until they unfreeze their gold and foreign exchange reserves.”

The minister has recognized that the Russian Government is open right now to the possibility of linking pensions to the rise in consumer prices, but there is still no decision in this regard.

“We will closely monitor the situation with prices, we will not let retirees offend in current conditions”, he assured before guaranteeing that Russia “has sufficient funds to ensure the production of the necessary goods and payments.”

Meanwhile, the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, has announced that the EU will activate this Sunday a new package of sanctions against Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

“Right now a new package of sanctions is being prepared that should come into force today,” he explained in an interview with France Info.

The application will depend on the negotiations held by the representatives of the member countries of the EU and includes in particular the ban on exporting luxury products to RussiaLe Drian has indicated.

Thus, he stressed that the sanctions against Russia “have never been so effective” and indicated that the objective is to raise the cost of the war for the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

The French minister recalled that neither France nor the EU are at war with Russia, but they support Ukraine. “We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainians through the regular financial aid we give them,” he said.

However, Le Drian has warned that “the worst is yet to come” and referred in particular to the use of “siege warfare” by Russian troops. “We bomb indiscriminately to sow fear, then we make believe that we are opening humanitarian corridors, then we say that those who remain are terrorists and we bomb again,” she argued.

As for diplomatic contacts, they “are not advancing” since Putin is “blocked in his maximalism, stubborn in his war goals”, so it could become a “long-term” conflict.

“At one point we thought there were small spaces, but these small spaces were closed with the blocking of discussions and the intensification of military operations,” he explained.
