Petro, Fajardo and Gutiérrez lead in presidential queries

Petro’s favoritism shown by the surveys was ratified this Sunday afternoon by obtaining 79.97% of the votes with 2,680,864 votes, followed by the Afro-descendant leader Francia Márquez who with 14.46% of the vote reached 484,699 of the ballots. While on the right, Gutiérrez with 54.58% obtained 1,286,738 votes, followed by conservative senator David Barguil with 16.15% and a total of 389,833 votes so far.

The results offered by the National Registry also showed that the Centro Esperanza coalition was led by former Governor Sergio Fajardo with 32.22% and 417,755 votes, followed by former Governor Carlos Amaya with 23.82% and 319,509 votes, which that still did not define the center candidate.

Some 38.8 million voters were eligible to vote in the country that, although it has one of the oldest democracies in Latin America, historically records a high abstention rate because voting is not mandatory.

In addition to defining the composition and eventual control of the Congress of 108 senators and 187 representatives to the chamber, voters will be able to participate in one of the three consultations to choose the presidential candidates from the same number of political coalitions.
