According to the Federal Association of Electromobility Austria, 15,141 electric cars were registered in Upper Austria as of December 31, 2021. This puts our federal state in second place behind Lower Austria (15,377). In 2021 alone, exactly 6688 e-cars were newly registered in Upper Austria.
Sharing the car with others, or car sharing for short, is becoming increasingly popular in Upper Austria. In Upper Austria, Linz AG offers such a service with TIM, ÖBB, Mühlferdl, Wels Strom, the Eferding energy cooperative and the getaround platform.
The demand for TIM in Linz is constantly increasing – 750 customers are already registered. A total of nine TIM locations have been opened in Linz and Leonding since 2019, and 37 electric cars are currently on the road.
“All in all, our cars have covered more than 850,000 kilometers in around 80,000 operating hours,” says Susanne Gilhofer from Linz AG. And every day there are more, because around 50 bookings are recorded per day. No other locations are planned this year. Why? “Because we are increasingly focusing on cooperation with companies,” says Gilhofer. 70 companies are already using this option. And this option is becoming more interesting for some companies, because as of December 31, 2021, the city stopped promoting e-cars, e-motorcycles and e-mopeds for companies.
In order to take account of the increasing popularity of e-cars, the charging infrastructure in the city will have to be continuously expanded. There are currently only 83 locations with 364 charging points in the city.
But the number will increase, after all, as reported, the number of photovoltaic systems on the roofs of public buildings and apartment buildings should also increase. “In the future, we will also be able to supply charging stations, which we always plan for new projects,” says GWG Managing Director Nikolaus Stadler in an OÖN interview.
