A doctor with heart and soul who always wanted to be one step ahead with his research in the field of ear, nose and throat medicine. His family members, patients and, above all, colleagues in the hospital will keep this picture of Primary Ernst Anton Richter forever. “As his son, I was always very proud of what my father had achieved throughout his life. He was a kind-hearted person, always stood up for others and also supported us children in every situation,” remembers his son Christian Richter.
As the son of an ENT doctor and always fascinated by natural sciences at school, Ernst Anton Richter originally wanted to be a chemist himself. Nevertheless, he decided to study medicine with a specialization in the same field as his father. After completing his training in Innsbruck, the ambitious young man spent two years at Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he continued his research in ENT medicine. He then returned to Innsbruck and continued his work until he finally broke his bridges in Tyrol and found a new home in Leonding with his family in 1982.
Hearing Specialist
In the same year, Richter, as one of the youngest primaries in Austria, took up his position at the AKH in Linz, where from then on he devoted himself specifically to the use of so-called cochlear implants in infants. “My father was a luminary in this field and was therefore often invited to give lectures abroad,” says Christian Richter. “The work made him indescribably happy when he was able to ensure that small children learn to hear and speak again. That also makes me very proud as a son.”
Ernst Anton Richter also owes the love of his life, his wife Ide-Gun, to his medical studies and the associated summer job in a Swedish hospital. “We met in the cafeteria and suddenly it was love,” his wife recalls. Since then, Ernst Anton and his Ide-Gun, together with their children Katrin, Christian and Nina, have traveled to Sweden at least once a year to visit relatives and friends. “These vacations bring back the best childhood memories, it was a very carefree, carefree time,” remembers son Christian.
Severely weakened by illness, Ernst Anton Richter never lost his zest for life. “His most beautiful words at the end: ‘I am very satisfied with my life,'” says his wife. The farewell will take place on Friday, March 18, at the parish cemetery of St. Michael in Leonding.
