During the overture to the final presentation of the alpine ski circuit in Courchevel yesterday, Austria’s aces didn’t push themselves into the foreground. In the first training session for the last descents of the season, Ramona Siebenhofer and Daniel Hemetsberger, respectively, were the best players of the ÖSV team in eighth place, which will also only play a supporting role in the fight for the last crystal balls of the winter from Wednesday. Five out of ten decisions are still open, Austria has two (theoretical) chances of crystal.
MEN
- Overall World Cup: Marco Odermatt has already won the big crystal globe, because the Swiss has an advantage of 329 points over the Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde with four races to go, but neither contests a slalom. Carinthian Matthias Mayer is fourth, 38 points behind Henrik Kristoffersen and is still in the running for the podium.
- Departure: It cannot be assumed that Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Olympic champion Beat Feuz will be disturbed in their duel for the most important speed ball. The Norwegian took a 23-point lead over the four-ball winner from Switzerland on the track in Courchevel. The Olympic third Matthias Mayer would have to win the last race of the season with a minus of 84 points and Kilde shouldn’t finish in the top 15 and Feuz not in the top 6 to still triumph.
- Super G: Aleksander Aamodt Kilde made everything clear with his fourth win of the season at home in Kvitfjell.
- giant slalom: With four wins, two second places and one third place, Olympic champion Marco Odermatt impressively brought in the first small crystal of his career. Behind the Swiss, the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen is second.
- Slalom: Kristoffersen leads with 371 points in front of Lucas Braathen (N/323), Linus Strasser (D/307), the Tyrolean Manuel Feller (301) and Daniel Yule (Sui/283). Everyone can still achieve first place on paper.
WOMEN
- Overall World Cup: The decision becomes a showdown between Mikaela Shiffrin and defending champion Petra Vlhova. The American takes a 56-point lead over the Slovak to France.
- Departure: Four-time winner of the season Sofia Goggia is about to win her third downhill ball. She is 75 points ahead of Swiss Olympic champion Corinne Suter.
- Super G: Federica Brignone is already the discipline winner.
- giant slalom: In theory, four runners can still grab the giant slalom ball. Olympic champion Sara Hector from Sweden is five points ahead of the Swiss Wendy Holdener, but already 51 on Shiffrin and 91 on Vlhova.
- Slalom: Petra Vlhova secured the small crystal ball in Schladming on January 11th. Katharina Liensberger, who recently won in Aare, wants to defend her current third place in the discipline ranking.
Almost forgotten: Austria won a crystal ball this winter. Christian Hirschbühl received this as the winner of the only parallel race.
