Many helping hands from the Mühlviertel for the Ukraine

The images of the war in Ukraine and above all of the effects on the civilian population have been dominating world events and media reports for weeks. As great as the distress of those affected is, the wave of willingness to help is also great in Upper Austria.

This is reflected in the many private initiatives that have emerged to provide, in one way or another, financial or material assistance to those most affected by the war. The palette is large. Cakes are baked and sold to raise money, or people make parts of their apartments or houses available to refugees from Ukraine.

At the weekend, OÖ Nachrichten and the Red Cross launched the fundraising campaign “Upper Austria helps Ukraine”. The donations ensure that every cent goes to the needy people in the war zone as well as in the neighboring countries, who have to look after, house and care for the many refugees from Ukraine.

Association Karibu World: Aid transport organized

“Karibu World” is a non-profit organization based in Freistadt that has been supporting disadvantaged children in East Africa and India for many years. The shocking circumstances in Ukraine spontaneously prompted the association to put together an aid shipment.

Treasurer Melitta Kreisel: “Thanks to the generous donations in kind from several of our President’s medical colleagues, but also due to the spontaneous support of long-term companions and ultimately also through the dedication of large amounts of our own funds, we were able to put together aid packages totaling 30,000 euros.”

The packages contain bandages, infusions, medicines, surgical accessories, baby food, diapers and much more. The aid transport was loaded and went to the Polish-Ukrainian border. There, the relief supplies were taken over by a well-known Ukrainian NGO and distributed in the war zone where there is a need.

Volkshilfe handled the logistics of the transport and the state of Upper Austria assumed the transport costs.

Soroptimists Rohrbach: Families supported

Immediately after the outbreak of war in the Ukraine, donations from the club sisters of the Soroptimists Club Rohrbacher Land, headed by President Elfriede Haindl, were pouring into the club account every hour.
Club sister Anna Kneidinger provides a large apartment with terrace and garden in the heart of Lembach, which is so cleverly divided that two Ukrainian families with children will feel comfortable in it.

Kindergarten, school, grocery store and other infrastructure are in the immediate vicinity. Families will be found in close coordination with local aid organizations. The furniture is provided by donations.
The sisters of SI Rohrbacher Land are also in the heart with their sisters in the Ukraine. The contact is a special one. Because in 2013, a delegation from the Mühlviertel visited the 20th anniversary celebration of Club Kyiv. Rohrbach’s district governor Wilbirg Mitterlehner, Hildegund Nöbauer, Ulrike Jauker and the current President Elfi Haindl were also present, as was Beate Schober from SI Melk Colomania, who runs a company in the Ukraine.

“We feel for our Ukrainian club sisters, who have to sit in the basement full of fear and fear for their lives,” says Ulrike Jauker.

She keeps in touch via social media with Olga Rud and Tamara Nazarova, who have to hold out in Ukraine, and encourages them on behalf of all the sisters in the SI Rohrbacher Land club.

Red Cross Mühlviertel: Support is enormous

The Red Cross employees and volunteers are there around the clock for those seeking protection in the Mühlviertler refugee quarters. Both the support in all matters, the medical service as well as the medical care by doctors is guaranteed. The willingness to help in the Red Cross and in the population is great.

Private individuals, associations, the voluntary fire brigade and many more help where and how they can. In many places, the warehouses were filled with donations in kind within a very short time, which is why in some cases donations in kind had to be stopped. There are some associations, communities or initiatives that collect donations and support the Red Cross in a very targeted manner if necessary. Volunteers can register at www.teamoesterreich.at. register – you will be contacted if necessary.
