Highest Tuesday value with 37,125 new infections

With 37,125 new infections, the highest Tuesday value since the pandemic began more than two years ago was recorded on Tuesday. The average of the past seven days has risen to 42,917 daily new infections, the seven-day incidence to 3,345.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. There were also 40 other fatalities.

The number of hospital patients has also risen significantly. 2,987 infected people had to be treated in the hospital on Tuesday – 131 more than on Monday. There was also a significant increase in the intensive care units. 219 Covid 19 patients had to be cared for there on Tuesday, 27 more than on Monday. In the past week, 227 new patients had to be admitted to the hospitals, which is an increase of eight percent.

The situation in hospitals is coming to a head

Due to the high number of cases in the population, more and more hospital staff are absent, and the situation in the hospitals is getting worse. According to the Viennese health association, around ten percent of the workforce in the clinics are currently absent due to illness, the ORF reported.

On Tuesday there were 393,595 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, 5,665 more than the day before. The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Styria with 3,899.6, followed by Vorarlberg, Lower Austria and Upper Austria (3,829.9, 3,815.3 and 3,586.5 respectively). They are followed by Salzburg (3,215.2), Burgenland (3,106.3), Tyrol (2,790.3) and Vienna (2,753.2), with Carinthia bringing up the rear (2,748.7).
