We know from social workers and street workers that many children and young people suffer from depressive symptoms, sleep disorders or anxiety symptoms. The number of young people affected has increased five to tenfold since the start of the corona pandemic two years ago. According to the Austrian Federal Association for Psychotherapy, eating disorders, drug use, self-harm and suicide attempts have increased massively.
“The situation has certainly not improved with the war situation in Ukraine,” says KPÖ municipal councilor Gerlinde Grünn. She therefore wants to know in an inquiry to the responsible Deputy Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP) on Thursday how the city of Linz has reacted to the increased need for psychosocial support.
“I would like to know how the offers of the city of Linz for child and youth health are used and whether additional measures may be needed,” says Grünn. This also involves the question of expanding human resources in the area of school social work, school psychology or support teachers.
