Chase: Shots failed to stop fuel thieves

In Carinthia on Tuesday afternoon, the police fired two shots at the vehicle while pursuing young people who were fleeing in a car that was not allowed to drive. But not even these stopped the car, which only came to a standstill after an accident. Finally, the 17-year-old and his two passengers, a Viennese (19) and a Viennese (16) were temporarily arrested. More about this in the video:

The teenagers attracted attention because they filled up without paying. Nobody was seriously injured, although according to the police report on Wednesday morning there were wild scenes. When asked, the executive said that the two shots aimed at stopping the car hit the engine block of the vehicle, but the young people were still able to continue their journey.

Drive through emergency lanes and closed tunnels

The scene started around 2:00 p.m. when the young, license-free Lower Austrian refueled the car on which the stolen number plates were mounted at a motorway service station in the municipality of Preitenegg (Wolfsberg district), but without paying on the southern motorway (A2) in the direction of Klagenfurt continued. The manhunt began. When two police patrols came across the car, the driver ignored blue lights and stop signs and continued driving at excessive speed. He also drove through two motorway tunnels that were blocked with red lights and the rescue lanes that had formed as a result.

Then the youngsters took the Griffen exit. In the crossing area to the B80, a civil patrol with blue lights again ignored the stop sign. “The driver increased the speed and drove towards the officers, whereupon one of the officers fired two well-aimed shots from the service weapon at the getaway vehicle to force it to stop,” the police report said. Although the two shots hit the engine block, the car was still drivable and the driver continued to flee in the direction of the Griffen area.

Overtaking maneuver ended escape

When he turned towards Griffnerberg at the roundabout, he collided with another road user at the level of the municipal office while overtaking. Both vehicles were severely damaged. Now the car gave up the ghost.

The driver and the 19-year-old Viennese woman who was riding in the back of the vehicle were arrested on the spot by the officers who intervened. The 16-year-old passenger from Vienna fled on foot to a nearby settlement. There he was picked up by an uninvolved passer-by and then handed over to the patrol officers for arrest.

The alcohol pre-test carried out on the handlebar was negative. He was brought before the medical officer of the Wolfsberg district authority on suspicion of drug abuse. An unfitness to drive was not determined.

Ads on the loose and positive corona test

In the course of the interrogation, the 17-year-old was proven to have stolen two license plates, four fuel frauds and one theft of a vending machine. The 16-year-old was involved in a license plate theft and theft of a vending machine.

The 19-year-old complained of severe headaches and back pain at the Wolfsberg police station. During the examination at the LKH, the corona test was positive. In addition, minor injuries were diagnosed, which she said she could have sustained in the traffic accident. The driver and the passenger were uninjured.

A highway patrol car was damaged. The public prosecutor’s office in Klagenfurt ordered the young people to be reported at large.
