Two days, 200 new cars: The car spring opens

The conditions couldn’t be worse: Corona, lack of semiconductors, extremely high fuel prices. And yet the time is perfect to look at new car models. Electric cars and cars with hybrid drives in particular are flashing in the headlights as an economical alternative. From the classic Renault Zoe to the luxury Stromer EQS, the electric S-Class from Mercedes. Of course, the most sought-after electrician at the moment, the Skoda Enyaq, for which buyers currently have to wait 16 months, will also be on display. Also there: the ID.5 from VW.

Three types of hybrid drives

Incidentally, hybrid models are snapping up the popularity scale. Which? The specialist salespeople will provide information about this at the Auto Spring. Three types of propulsion will be exhibited:

  • Mild Hybrid (MHEV): A 48-volt starter generator briefly supports the combustion engine. The minimal variant.
  • Full Hybrid (HEV): An electric motor alone takes care of the acceleration from a standstill to 50 to a maximum of 120 km/h. Only then does the combustion engine switch on. When braking, electricity is generated (recuperation) with which a small battery is charged (one to two kilowatt hour capacity). The perfect area of application for PHEVs is the city with a lot of start/stop traffic.
  • Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): A battery stores electricity that is sufficient for 40 to 130 purely electric kilometers. The battery must be charged at an outlet.

Linz Mobil, the e-mobility experts at Linz AG, will provide information about the individually tailored charging options. The WallBOX CitySolution, a charging solution for large residential complexes, will be presented for the first time at the stand. Linz AG and Keba developed this project together. A Wallbox will be raffled off in a competition.

A total of 200 new cars – 40 of which are pure electric vehicles and 52 hybrids – are available for test drives on the two car spring days.

Speaking of spring: Meteorologist Christian Resch from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) predicts a sunny weekend. On Saturday, a few patches of cloud will pass over Linz and the temperatures will climb to 13 to 15 degrees. Sunday will be a cloudless day with a maximum temperature of 16 degrees. The (car) spring knocks very loudly!

Visitors to the ORF stand can playfully determine their own reaction time and win a number of vouchers for car washes, charging stations, concerts, etc.

At the OÖN stand, in addition to 10 times 2 balloon rides, a Toyota Aygo Hybrid will also be raffled.
