The consequences of the pandemic for trade and gastronomy in downtown Linz are also the concern of the municipal council today. The SPÖ is applying for a resolution to the federal government to strengthen trading companies. Specifically, “an additional tax deductibility of renovation, modernization and production costs for inner-city retail and catering businesses should be created”. The Reds take the German trade association as a model, which called for tax incentives for building renovations. With tax relief, the SPÖ hopes to modernize the city centers, which could also have positive effects on climate protection and energy efficiency.
In addition, a digitization offensive in retail is to be launched with the help of a nationwide digitization fund of 100 million euros for the next three years. “In particular, medium-sized inner cities have suffered from the effects of the Covid measures, rapid nationwide support is needed here to prevent the city centers from dying out,” says SP city councilor Dietmar Prammer.
