Taliban trial: verdict partially overturned

The Supreme Court (OGH) has partially overturned the judgment of the Wels Regional Court against a 31-year-old who is said to have glorified the Taliban on social media and called for the murder of a woman in the USA. The guilty verdict of attempted murder and dangerous threats remains. The one because of a terrorist organization, criminal organization and request for and approval of terrorist offenses, however, not. The Afghan had served 15 years in prison in September last year.

The Supreme Court overturned the verdict of the jury and referred the case back to the regional court in Wels for another hearing. This could also mean that the sentence of 15 years should be recalculated. The defendant had denied the call for murder, but admitted glorifying the Taliban.
