It already seems to be a fixed point in the calendar of those opposed to vaccination and corona measures, which will continue to exist: because they still gather in the city center on Sundays to demonstrate against vaccination, the corona measures and the government. Last Sunday around 120 people came together in the town square, the number of participants varies from week to week. The demonstrations are registered for 50 to 300 people. “There was a registration for all following Sundays,” says Eva Gaisbauer from the Braunau district authority when asked by OÖN. Such demonstrations also took place regularly in Hochburg-Ach, but none last week and none have been registered for this week (yet), according to Gaisbauer.

The demos themselves are mostly peaceful, there are no incidents, says Gaisbauer. Enough police officers still have to be on site to ensure the safety of the demonstrators. The right to demonstrate – a valuable asset – must be able to be exercised safely, even without registration. “It’s all about traffic here,” says Gaisbauer, because the demonstrators are moving through the town square and then to the middle of the Inn Bridge. Traffic will therefore be diverted.
As before, the demonstration ends in the middle of the bridge, because the Simbach officials will not let it move onto Bavarian soil. “The demonstrations are not registered with us,” is the reasoning of the Simbach police. The fact that almost all corona measures were dropped at the beginning of March, and with them the 3G obligation to provide evidence, has an effect on the number of test streets: the test street in Altheim was closed last Sunday by order of the state crisis management team. The opening times in the Impfstraße in Braunau have also been shortened: vaccinations are no longer given every day, but from Wednesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. Longer on Fridays, namely until 8 p.m. – the Novavax vaccine is available on this day. Infection numbers are increasing rapidly
The number of infections in the district is higher than ever, in the district capital Braunau alone 829 active cases were counted as of yesterday. According to the state dashboard, a total of more than 4660 people in the Braunau district are corona-positive. The seven-day incidence has risen to more than 3640. For comparison: last week the incidence was around 2300. In the communities of Franking and Kirchberg, more than seven percent of the residents are currently proven to be infected with corona.
The numbers in the Braunau hospital are also increasing again, albeit not as rapidly as the number of infections: As of yesterday, 24 Covid patients were being cared for, one of them intensively. Last week it was 20, none intense.
