In the “Kleine Zeitung” the department head said that a large number of advisory staffs had been deployed that were not always well networked and did not act congruently: “It’s my job to tighten that up.”
In the interview, Rauch left open whether the measures could be tightened. His strategy is to ask all the experts again, look at the forecast calculation and check which measure would take effect when – and whether you can use it to break the wave earlier. The minister would also like to know how long it will take for a mask requirement to take effect. At a later point in time, further isolation measures would probably be lifted – “but not now”.
Resignations at Gecko?
Meanwhile, the “Wiener Zeitung” reports that there could be resignations at Friday’s meeting of the Gecko advisory body. The experts are apparently dissatisfied that they were not consulted on important issues such as the restriction of free tests and that relaxation steps were taken that at least some experts in the group did not share. The report only quotes the virologist Andreas Bergthaler, who says: “Some people are very displeased with Gecko.”
