A total of around 19,600 infections were registered during the screenings – in the previous week there were almost 19,000. Across Austria, nine schools (previous week: eight) and an additional 1,198 classes (previous week: 856) are completely or partially closed.
In Vienna, infections were registered in 6,582 schoolchildren (previous week: 5,266), whereby a different test system is used here with “Everything gargles” than in the other countries. 3,533 positive tests were recorded in Upper Austria (previous week: 3,214), in Lower Austria 2,669 (previous week: 3,011), in Styria 2,580 (2,839), in Tyrol 1,157 (previous week: 1,185), in Salzburg 1,080 (1,044), in Carinthia 960 ( 1,034), in Vorarlberg 602 (684) and in Burgenland 450 (457).
The development differs in the individual countries. There was a significant increase in Vienna, and a plus was also registered in Upper Austria, while Styria, Lower Austria, Vorarlberg and Carinthia recorded fewer cases. In the other federal states, the numbers stagnated.
Despite the same test interval, fewer and fewer PCR tests have been carried out since the semester break, which is probably due to the significant increase in fully or partially closed classes. The positivity rate on the tests rose to 1.6 percent from 0.9 percent last week and has remained about the same this week.
The further test strategy at the schools is still not fixed. Tests are currently carried out three times a week, twice using the more meaningful PCR method. After the reduction in tests for the entire population announced by Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens), a solution for schools is currently being negotiated. According to reports, the countries have different wishes here.
